There are moments when dramatic action is necessary. This is one of them.
That’s why I had a bumper sticker made and put it on my car. And, yes, there are quite a few more to be distributed. You could be an early joiner.
As bumper stickers go, it’s quite simple. No lengthy message. The top half says “Carney” in white against a red background, reflecting the Canadian colors. The bottom half says “2028” in white letters against a blue background, with a red stripe to incorporate the red, white and blue of the United States.
Not As Crazy As It Seems
No doubt some readers will think this entirely too obscure. Or just that I have, finally, lost it.
But I haven’t lost it. I’m coming to grips with the dismal political reality in our country. Both of our political parties are utterly worthless.
Worthless Republicans
Yes, I know, some of you hope that everything Trump will leave office with him. I agree. But we are witnessing, every day, a level of corruption and dishonesty that was beyond conception to the very realistic Founding Fathers of our country. And the Republican Party supports him, cowers or looks the other way. They should be thrown out like the trash they are.
Discussing tax matters, a British barrister once suggested to an attorney friend of mine that it was not good to be “gross with your sham.” Sadly, our Republican Party has become grotesquely gross with its sham. Skeptics need only consider the direction of tax legislation in the last 40 years. That is why they must be discarded.
Useless Democrats
Unfortunately, we need to do the same with the Democratic Party. While Democrats are still subtle with their sham, they are a brain-dead group, with no hope of bringing the change we lowly voter/citizens need.
So I am proposing Mark Carney, the current and 24th prime minister of Canada, for president of the United States in 2028.
The Sane Alternative
Not a day too soon! He’s lucid, logical and polite. He’s reasonable. He doesn’t name call, disparage or give people horrible nicknames. He knows how to make deals. He looks out for the people of Canada. And, as far as I can see, there is no other leader in the entire world who is respected as much as he is. Some have even suggested that he is the de facto leader of the free world.
Skeptics should consider the current sorry slate of alternatives. According to Polymarket, the leading Republican presidential nominee, by a large margin, is flighty, shifty J.D.Vance. He is followed by the likes of Marco Rubio, Tucker Carlson and Ron DeSantis. Dredging lower in the barrel we have Ted Cruz, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump.
The same future betting service offers Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Gavin Newsom and Kamala Harris and a many others as leading Democratic candidates.
Thanks. But no thanks.
That Citizenship Thing
Unfortunately, there is a major impediment to electing Mark Carney as the 48th president of the United States.
He’s not a citizen.
He wasn’t born here. He was born in Canada which, as you know, is another country.
Fortunately, I have two unlikely solutions for this problem.
The Write-In Solution
First, we voters can draft him. We make him a write-in candidate and add a good cause for a constitutional crisis to the current long list of horrible causes for a constitutional crisis.
The 51st State Solution
Second, we could rely on the idiot-savant qualities of our current president, Donald J. Trump. Employing, as always, his strange, fact-free brilliance, he has proposed that we make Canada the 51st state. If we do that, Mark Carney will have been retroactively born in the United States!
So he would be eligible to be president.
That would be a great day. And the only reason, ever, to be thankful for the 47th president.
